This is what one of our very first candidates had to say about his experience with our online training. This candidate actually attended one of our practical one-week training courses, so he was familiar with most of what is contained in the Online Course – yet these are his words:

Over time, we started presenting our courses all over South Africa and even abroad. Delegates and clients benefited from our training as far abroad as Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and even the Middle East.

As the quality of our training and the practical nature of our courses became known, we started attracting international students from as far away as Malaysia. As more and more delegates attended our courses, we started receiving regular requests for additional training, longer courses, more detail and more advanced subjects.

OUR BOOK

Since we are also committed to providing at-scene and post-event road traffic collision investigation, on-call reconstruction services and expert testimony, we became ever busier.

This interfered with our ability to commit to more than but a few training cycles per year. In an effort to at least share some of our knowledge with as many people as possible, Stan Bezuidenhout released his first book – DIY Accident Investigation (now in 2nd edition).​

While some people invariably have the time and inclination to read and while some even have a romantic affiliation for physical paper books, there are people who can simply not find the time to sit down and read. Others find it more difficult to internalize the contents of written works as easily as they do that from personal presentations. Acknowledging this, we realized that a hybrid solution had to be developed, so we started presenting our students with a copy of DIY Accident Investigation when they attend any of our courses. This led to a deeper appreciation and internalization of the methods and processes we use in the field.

As much as the books were available to those who could not attend classes and as much as we were able to share our knowledge through training, we were constantly reminded of the many reasons why clients and delegates were unable to benefit from our training offers. We were constantly disappointed to hear of so many clients and delegates missing out on the opportunity to learn for some very understandable reasons. The reasons we came to hear most often from delegates and clients feeling at a loss for missing out on our courses, included:

No matter the reasons; we realized that there were many delegates and clients that were missing out on the opportunity to learn our particular set of skills for a variety of very valid reasons. We found that issues like scheduling, not being able to take leave and clients not being able to release staff due to operational pressures were far more prevalent than challenges relating specifically to cost. But even in spite of this, the cost of attending a practical course is affected by a variety of unmanageable factors. We also found that smaller attendee numbers would drive up costs and even result in the cancellation of scheduled training courses, where support was inadequate. While this happened very seldom, it was an ongoing concern and we needed to find a way to accommodate everyone while offering:

Upon completion of our DIY Accident Investigation Course, the following outcome will be achieved by each successful student or client:

  • Consider, select and purchase basic equipment needed for crash investigation

  • Understand when, how and why to mark the position of vehicles on crash scenes

  • Locate, download and use software tools that will assist in crash investigation

  • Photograph crash scenes under a variety of conditions, using camera features

  • Receive an emergency call or make one and optimize information exchange

  • Collect the correct information from drivers, witnesses, passengers and victims

  • Arrive at-, properly introduce themselves, gain access and proceed with investigation

  • Interact with emergency services present and work around them without interference

  • Photograph vehicular evidence, covering the most important aspects for each type

  • Gather additional photographic evidence at- of- and around the scene and area

  • Request information from official sources, individuals and organizations

  • Interview drivers, victims, witnesses and subjects to gather more detailed evidence
