1 August 2006 IBF Investigations launches it's new web-site with improved functionality and content. Over the past years many people have asked us what it is we do, how we do it, what they need to do to get involved, etc. Sometimes, people ask about our technology while at other times they need to understand what services we supply. This web-site strives to address all those and more. May 2007 IBF Investigations takes occupation of their premises in #2 Scheckter Street, Killarney Gardens! Now, we have our own Forensic Vehicle Laboratory and our very own classroom facilities. The close proximity of the two enables us to offer our clients the best in investigative technology, our students the best in exposure and experience and - lest we forget - vehicle owners the peace of mind that their vehicles have been investigated totally, independently and professionally. April 2007 IBF Investigations launches the first phaze of an on-line database designed specifically to enable insurance companies, large fleet owners, the SAPS, the Road Accident Fund, Accident victims and their representatives and any affected, influenced and/or relevant party access to various leverls of accident information. All under controlled and managed conditions, based on the level of membership of the affected party. December 2006 When a Truck and Taxi ran head-on into each other on the R25 between Benoni and Bronkhorstspruit, IBF SA was mobilized by the RTMC to respond and investigate the accident in order to produce a complete reconstruction. The investigation forms part of a special project launched by the RTMC in late 2006. November 2006 IBF Investigations was apointed as one of only five special investigative teams. Although we won prior contracts almost exclusively, the Road Traffic Management Corporation decided that it needed a total of five teams, in order to ensure that the work-load does not become too much. Although one of five, IBF Investigations still remains the only team with a Mobile Forensic Laboratory. Shortly after the previous accident, another serious accident happened that required IBF Investigations to respond back to Gauteng. This time, a Minibus Taxi ran into a street lamp pole on the M1 close to the M1 off-ramp killing in excess of eight people. Laser Technology Every month, we select an image of the month in order to show visitors what goes on out there! These images are from accidents, incidents, offences, situations or events, etc. They also represent what we do... If you have an image that you think we should display here (obviously only accident and transport related), please feel free to e-mail it to us directly with a supporting description of no more than 100 words. This is an image that was taken in Franschoek, outside Cape Town. The image was taken when the i-Site 3D Lasergrammetry tecnology was used to measure the accident scene, in order to ensure that all elements of evidence was recorded. The device is capable of recording millions of points in 3D space within minutes to within sub-millimeter accuracy. The parties present are (from Left to Right): Stan Bezuidenhout and Jackie Smith (IBF SA), Shane Wilmoth (IBF UK), Johan Joubert (ex Stellenbosch Traffic), Elton Du Plessis (i-Site SA) and withJason Richards (i-Site Autstralia) kneeling. This is how it works:
First, the system scans millions of points, so that a so-called "point cloud" is formed. What the above image is showing is actually millions of single dots, all making up the scene of the accident. IT's been "cleaned up" a bit already.
Then the most important elements are highlighted and marked, and the relevant distances measured to finally be exported and converted to an actual scene drawing, like this:
From here, the scene can be compiled and the reconstructive efforts started! Finally, a high quality scale scene drawing can be produced...

We appreciate them all... When sponsors are kind enough to assist us, we prefer to acknowledge this and feature them here on our web-site, where everyone can see what they've done. We want to ensure that people realize that they can help in one of MANY ways. The sponsors are listed in order of value, meaning that they are all here - from the first one ever, to the last one. This will give visitors an insight into just how popular support is and can be... 2007... Mercedes Benz Commercial Vehicles sponsors IBF Investigations for another year! With the kind sponsorhip of Mercedes Benz Commercial Vehicles in Montague Gardens, Cape Town, we can continue to provide our excellent service. The new Vito was handed over in October 2006. This sponsorship has become a key component of our success. When we received our second sponsorship of the Mercedes Benz Vito, we were not only happy, we were ready to improve our service. This new Mobile Laboratory now features more special equipment, tools and technology to enable us to maintain our very competitive edge while maintaining a high social responsibility profile throughout 2007, as in 2006. We were also sponsored by Sony South Africa. Their Sony Alpha 100 Camera is prviding us with excellent photogrpahic technology, enabling us not only to produce high quality images, but also to do so under some of the worst lighting conditions, thanks to advanced image stabilization tehcnology!
We take photogrpahs under less than ideal conditions. We cannot tell cars to move, put up more lights or tell people to smile or "say cheese." We have to work with what we have - and a good camera goes a long way towards making our jobs a great deal easier. This is an example of the quality of a photogrpah taken on a 2-second shutter, with NO flash, with this very Sony Alpha 100: We wish to extend a special thanks to our sponsors!
